So ... you have done your research and realize there is more to importing a car into canada than meets the eye. This is very true. For starters (and I made this mistake), I had no idea that to Import a car into canada I had to first Export the car from the USA! More information can be found below from the US Customs and Border Protection
Exporting a Car from the USA
In our eBook we will actually explain what this all means and cover what they arent telling you here. Realize you could waste a LOT of time and effort not knowing what to do when you show up at the border. My wife and I spent over 8 hours at the border getting this done ... and we were extremely lucky to drive into canada in our car!

Where to start Importing a Car into Canada
So you want to Import a Car into Canada? Where do you start? What do you need to know? How can you prepare?
If you are researching this on the internet you already way ahead of where I was when I started. I didn’t even think about the ramifications of showing up at the border with my car and not being prepared.
In hindsight I have tried to research everything we learned after importing our car. There were lots of sites that gave some basic information on importing a car, but nothing that gave comprehensive results on everything you need to know from start to finish.
You will probably find that most of the sites out there are actually government sites. Sites like:
Transport Canada
or
Registrar of Imported Vehicles
These sites have some fantastic information but fail to tell you what you really need to know about saving money! In fact, from our experience, we ended up paying over $2,000 in fees we didn’t have to pay!
It is like the quote says "knowledge is power". If you prepare to import your car you can and will save time and money. There aren’t a lot of resources out there that are comprehensive but you should get a good feel about what to "expect".

How to Import a Car into Canada
Importing a Car into Canada
My wife and I recently imported a car into Canada from the States. We thought it would be a fairly straight forward process. We were wrong. We ended up having to spend over $4,000 to import our car and it was a nightmare from start to finish.
If you are thinking about importing a car into Canada we would encourage you to do your research! This will save you TONS to time and literally save you thousands of dollars. After we had imported our car I tried to research the internet for information that would have helped us get this done. There really wasnt a lot out there. Sure there were a few sites that give little snippets of what to do and what not to do, but nothing really spelt it out from start to finish.
I guess if you have hours and hours to burn you could definitely get a good feel for what to expect if you got everything out there together. My wife and I decided to document our whole experience and highlight exactly how, where, and when you can save time and money.
I will be posting more here soon to help you get started. In the meantime I recommend you check out the website my wife and I created to help people get started and learned what NOT to do when Importing a car into Canada.
